Thread: Chowdren - Blazingly fast Fusion ports for desktop, consoles and mobile

Chowdren - Blazingly fast Fusion exporter for desktop, mobile and consoles

I should clarify that $30k is NOT affordable for most, myself included. My phrasing may have been off.

Oh no, I knew what you meant right away.
I thought it might be a few hundred bucks but there's no way this side of Stardew Valley it'd be worth looking into for my own stuff.

Yea. Chowdren is not meant to be be on the same price point of Fusion products. But it is not unreasonable if you consider the cost of a coder to do a port for you. The reality is that it is a solution for people who are aiming for both top tier quality and top tier profits. if your game isn't going to clear $100k, you probably aren't the target audience.

And that's totally fair. Those of us who don't fall into that category may be frustrated with the lack of an option but targeting your product towards the top tier makes good financial sense for you.

Isn't that nearly everybody here though? I'd thought the cost would be a lot lower since he's advertising on this site of Choco Breakers and Super Mario Brothers fan games

I take a bit of offense to that. :P I know I hang in a forum of many, many fangame and "simple" game enthusiasts. Hell, I think there are just a lot of people here who are amateurs trying to figure things out and learn, and that is great. But there are a few of us who are trying to make a living and compete on a higher level. For those of us who have hit a wall with Fusion, Chowdren is an alternative to moving on to "real" coding. The problem is the people who aren't ready to compete on that higher level of development are excited by the "idea" of seeing their project on a console or some other platform that Fusion doesn't give them access to.

Ultimately, I think most people don't realize that publishing on a console is much more complex than the way they make exe files for their PC. It takes real money and a lot of work to conform to the platform standards that are laid out. I applaud Matthias for trying to offer a service to people who are ready to seriously take that plunge. It may not be for everybody, but then again, neither is console development.

Oh it's an awesome service, no doubt, I just don't know if the target audience is (for the most part) here.
It'd be like me trying to sell a Ferrari at a Yugo dealership.

If not here, where would be a better place to advertise? These forums are the number one hangout of any Fusion user, amateur to advanced. I would love to know of more advanced user forums, but I have never found one.

You only need to look at http://mp2.dk to see the games Matthias has ported. A great set of well received and popular games, all made with Fusion. I believe that all of the developers of those projects have posted around here at some point in time!

It's good to aim high, and it is great that Matthias is able to help independent developers bridge the gap from the more straightforward and established avenues to the console markets for those of us that do see that level of success, and that opportunity.

I just wonder how many of us are willing to trade the savings they had set aside for a down payment on a house for this, to take a chance at making it big with their game. I definitely don't have the balls for that.

Edit: Also on his site it says the pricing model's not fixed, but "serious proposals only". There should probably be some sort of heads up it's in such a high dollar range IMO. A serious proposal to one guy might be $1000 for example, but his email might never get replied to because it's not in the same ballpark of what their team had in mind.

Again, this is a great and cool service but there's not really any indication that it's such a high cost one from anywhere.
